The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Starbucks, is pleased to announce the Starbucks Design Contest in celebration of the Year of Arabic Poetry 2023. This Contest is devoted to fostering and honoring the rich heritage of Arabic poetry while engaging our community dynamically and imaginatively. Participants are encouraged to create designs and works of art that capture the essence of Arabic poetry and the rich culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the Contest is a venue for showcasing local talent and granting them recognition by prominently incorporating their artwork throughout Saudi Arabia.

The theme of the Contest is Arabic poetry, so whether you express it through words or images, make sure your submission aligns with this theme.

Guidelines

Technical Conditions for Participation

  • Your design should draw inspiration from the rich culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, reflecting elements that are closely associated with Saudi culture and identity.
  • Pay close attention to the quality and clarity of your design and drawings.
  • All entries must be submitted exclusively through the Contest Website.
  • Keep in mind that your design should be suitable for printing on Starbucks coffee mugs.
  • Do not alter or tamper with the Starbucks logo in any way.
  • Please refrain from using gradients, glossy effects, metallic finishes, or transparent colors in your design.
  • Leave a 2.5 cm space at the top and bottom of the cup design free of any drawings.
  • Design files approved for the Contest must be uploaded in an (open-source format) and used in your design submission.
  • Provide your design in jpeg/png format, as well as the open-source file.
  • Ensure that the attached file size does not exceed 100MB.
  • Your design should be fully colored, but refrain from using gradients, shimmers, metallic shades, or translucent colors.
  • Each participant is allowed to submit only one design.
  • Avoid using aliases or altering your email to submit multiple designs. Each user should present only one design.

Terms & Conditions

  • The submitted artwork must comply with all applicable local and international rights, regulations, and laws. It must not, in any way, promote the violation of such rights, laws, or regulations.
  • Participants must be at least 18 years old to be eligible for the Contest.
  • Engaging in plagiarism or intellectual theft will result in immediate disqualification.
  • Submitting artwork to the Contest does not imply registration of intellectual property rights.
  • Artworks submitted must be created specifically for this Contest and should not have participated in other contests previously.
  • Participants are prohibited from publishing their submitted works on social networking sites before the Contest period ends and winners are officially announced.
  • Each participant is allowed to submit one design only.
  • The Ministry of Culture may share relevant participant information and Contest-related details on its Website and relevant social media accounts.
  • The Ministry of Culture and participating entities reserve the right to exclude any participating artist without providing reasons. In such cases, the Ministry of Culture bears no obligation or compensation of any kind. The Ministry of Culture also reserves the right to select an alternative winner if the original winner is found ineligible based on the Contest's terms and conditions.
  • All decisions made are final. The Ministry of Culture and participating entities retains the right to suspend, delay, cancel, or modify the terms and conditions at any time without prior notice.
  • The Ministry of Culture may make changes to the terms and conditions from time to time. Participants are responsible for reviewing any updates to these terms and conditions, as the Ministry of Culture may not announce such changes separately.

Intellectual Property

  • All artworks submitted to the Ministry of Culture or participating entities shall become their property. The Ministry or any participating entity retains the right to register these artworks as intellectual property.
  • In the case of two similar entries from different individuals, and if neither party can prove ownership of the idea, the Contest administration retains the right to cancel both entries unless one party provides official proof of ownership.
  • The Ministry of Culture or participating entities shall retain detailed files attached to the Contest participation form or sent via email.
  • Participants hereby acknowledge and consent that the Ministry of Culture, participating entities, or authorized parties are granted the right to publish these entries on their websites, mobile platforms, television, radio, or any other existing or forthcoming media. Participants also consent to the use of their entries in promotional and advertising activities.
  • All entry details and other information submitted by participating artists shall be personal and specific to themselves. Participants acknowledge that all information provided does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights, proprietary rights, privacy, or other rights of any third party.
  • Participants consent to the Ministry of Culture or participating entities filming publicity campaigns and using winning entries and winners' names in various advertising channels.
  • The Ministry of Culture and participating entities do not assume responsibility for any intellectual property rights claimed by participants. The Ministry of Culture bears no legal responsibility for materials uploaded to the Contest Website that may infringe on registered property rights.

Legal Liability

  • These terms and conditions are subject to the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Any disputes arising from participation in the Contest shall be considered by the competent judicial authorities in the city of Riyadh.
  • Participating artists affirm the originality of their submissions and declare that no one else owns the intellectual property rights to their entry.
  • In the event of disputes related to the intellectual property of a participant or any other dispute, the participating artist releases the Ministry of Culture and participating entities from responsibility for any material or moral damages resulting from such disputes. The participant shall be solely responsible for any violations or breaches.
  • The Ministry of Culture and participating entities shall not be held responsible for any false or inaccurate information that may arise due to human errors or technical malfunctions (including but not limited to data loss, data transfer delays, deletion, or telephone line, computer, network, or computer accessory malfunctions).
  • The Ministry of Culture and participating entities bear no responsibility for any material losses or damages resulting from participation in the Contest.
  • The Ministry of Culture and participating entities are not responsible for any legal actions taken against individuals who violate laws or regulations before official authorities.

How to apply for the competition

  • 1. Use the template to design your mug.
  • 2. Try your design in the attached file (open source) and save it.
  • 3. The files will be automatically updated in the Adobe Illustrator file when you open it.
  • 4. Save the file in JPEG or PNG format and upload it to the website.

  • Is the applicant required to be part of a team?
  • The Contest is open to individuals, so applicants do not need to be part of a team.

  • What is the required format for drawings?
  • Please upload your design file in JPEG or PNG format and attach an open-source file for your design in AI or PSD format.

  • How would entries be evaluated?
  • Entries will be evaluated based on criteria established by a specialized panel, and selected entries will be subjected to a public vote.

  • How do I know if I have been nominated for the next stage?
  • If your entry is nominated for the final stages, our team will contact you using the contact information you provided in the registration form.

  • Where will the Contest take place?
  • Participants can pick up Starbucks cups ready for painting at any Starbucks location. Once you have finished creating your artwork, you can submit it virtually by uploading it through the registration link.
