Taif City Participates in the UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature Annual Meeting in Tartu, Estonia

Taif City, a UNESCO Creative City of Literature, participated in the Annual Meeting of UNESCO Creative Cities of Literature, held in Tartu, Estonia, from 9 to 15 May 2026. Representing Taif City at the meeting were Eng. Ahmed Jameel Haidar, Assistant Undersecretary for Investment at Taif Municipality, and Abdulaziz Al-Mishari, representative of the Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission. The Annual Meeting of Cities of Literature serves as an international platform that brings together Cities of Literature from around the world to exchange expertise, discuss joint initiatives, and showcase best practices in developing the literary sector and strengthening its presence in public life. The meeting's program featured specialized internal sessions, presentations of best practices, and field visits to several cultural institutions in Tartu, including the Estonian Literary Museum, the University of Tartu Library, and the Tartu Public Library. The program also included cultural activities and meetings with representatives of local cultural organizations. During the meeting, the Taif delegation explored a range of distinguished international experiences in integrating literature into urban life. The delegation also presented the "Literary Partner" initiative as a successful model of effective local partnerships that empower community organizations to design and implement literary initiatives while expanding access to diverse segments of society. This participation reflects Taif City's ongoing efforts to strengthen its role within the UNESCO Creative Cities Network, foster international cultural partnerships that contribute to the development of the literary sector locally, and highlight the city's literary identity on the global stage.
