The Intangible Heritage Association Highlights Aspirations and Challenges in an Introductory Workshop in Taif
The Intangible Heritage Association organized an introductory workshop titled “We Are the Living Heritage: Aspirations and Challenges” at the headquarters of the Taif Literary Association, attended by the association’s Chairman of the Board, Dr. Othman bin Mahmoud Al-Sini, CEO Sarah Al-Juhani, and a number of intellectuals and cultural enthusiasts from Taif. The workshop reviewed the association’s objectives, areas of interest, and the importance of safeguarding intangible cultural heritage as a fundamental component of cultural identity. It also highlighted the differences between tangible and intangible heritage, including oral traditions, performing arts, social practices, and traditional crafts. During the workshop, participants discussed the challenges facing the documentation of intangible cultural heritage, the impact of technology and globalization, and the role of younger generations in preserving it. They also explored the contribution of cultural tourism and supporting organizations to ensuring its sustainability. The workshop featured interventions and discussions from attendees, presenting a number of proposals and ideas, including strengthening community initiatives, establishing specialized centers for handicrafts, and expanding the scope of cultural events related to intangible heritage. At the conclusion of the workshop, Dr. Othman Al-Sini responded to attendees’ questions, affirming that the opinions and recommendations presented would be taken into consideration as part of the workshop’s future outcomes.
