Announcement For Open Call and Registration
Since Saudi Arabia’s first participation at La Biennale di Venezia in 2011, the pavilion has hosted an array of diverse artists and architects celebrating various forms of creative expression. Its participation seeks to honor the country’s contemporary art and architecture scene by providing a platform from which to share their work with a truly international audience.
The National Pavilion, located in the Arsenale, acts as a home for the Kingdom’s most innovative talent from across its regions. Cultural practitioners will use the pavilion as a hub to explore, research and collaborate in the fields of art and architecture.
Saudi Arabia’s relationship with La Biennale di Venezia forms part of its ambitions to support and enable its thriving art and architectural sectors. Through the exchange of ideas, audiences will experience a range of narratives from the Kingdom, establishing lasting relationships with the world.
After the Kingdom’s successful participation in the 2018 and 2021 editions of the Architecture Biennale in Venice, The Architecture & Design Commission has launched an Open Call for Architects and Curators to have the chance to represent the Kingdom as part of the National Pavilion of Saudi Arabia as a team at La Biennale di Venezia’s 18th International Architecture Exhibition titled: The Laboratory of The Future curated by Lesly Lokko.
This call for proposals seeks to discover the creative Saudi minds that will be able to deliver the message of hope and the future that is tied to this edition’s theme. Applications are open to teams consisting of Saudi-based architects and architectural practices, that must be led by local or international curators with experience working in Saudi and/or the Gulf region. Application Guideline
1. Creat a Team
You are required to register in the form of a team with a minimum of two members please read the Terms and Conditions for details related to the criteria of participation and rules.
2. Submit Application & Proposal:
After forming a team, you are required to register your team by filling out the online application, which must be filled out by the team lead (curator) and submit a proposal of the exhibition along with the documents described in the terms and conditions for all the members. .

Terms and Conditions
- Previous experience in the field and participation in similar exhibitions locally or internationally is desirable.
- Applicants must be available for the period 03/10/22 – 31/12/23 to work on this project and must comply with the time frames for submissions.
- Applicants must have at least one Saudi member, and architectural practices should be based in the Kingdom.
- Teams should not exceed five people (including Curator).
- Applicants must be fluent in Arabic and English and are expected to produce work in both languages.
- Applicants must comply with the guidelines and directions given by the Ministry of Culture.
- Applicants must develop and submit a proposal with a focus on a concept that fits the 2023 theme: The Laboratory of The Future includes; curatorial text (exhibition conceptual description), plans, modules, exhibition walkthrough (exhibition physical description).
- All submissions must be original. Any indication of perjury or duplication will make applicants exempt from the selection process.
- Members of one team cannot apply again in the form of another team. Applications can only be received once.
- Along with the completed online application form and exhibition proposal, applicants must submit the following: a CV listing all educational and work experience, two contact references, and a portfolio of previous works or projects (for each team member / architectural practice).
