About the Competition

As part of its celebration of the Year of Saudi Coffee 2022, the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Starbucks, launched the Starbucks Cup Design Competition. The competition seeks to enhance the identity of Saudi coffee and engage community members in Year of Saudi Coffee initiatives innovatively and creatively by creating designs and illustrations based on the identity and culture of Saudi coffee. The competition also seeks to foster local talents by highlighting their arts, as Starbucks will use them on a large scale in Saudi Arabia.

Additional Information

Technical conditions for participation

  • The design should be inspired by the culture of Saudi Arabia and reflective of the elements associated with Saudi culture and identity.
  • The design should be inspired by Saudi coffee and reflective of its importance.
  • The quality and clarity of the design and illustrations should be considered.
  • Physical submissions are not accepted.
  • The graphics and illustrations should be suitable for Starbucks’ coffee cups.
  • Manipulation of the Starbucks logo is not allowed.
  • Using gradient, glitter, metallic, or translucent paint is not allowed.
  • A 2.5 cm horizontal space must remain clear at the top and bottom of the Starbucks cup.
  • Download the open-source design files and use them to design and participate in the competition.
  • Upload designs in JPEG or PNG format, in addition to the open-source file.
  • The maximum file size must not exceed 100 MB.

Terms and Conditions

  • The proposed artwork must not conflict with any local or international rights, regulations, or laws or encourage the violation of those rights, laws, or regulations in any way.
  • All participants must be at least 15 years of age.
  • Submission of artwork by the participating artist does not mean that it is registered as intellectual property.
  • The submitted work must be executed specifically for the competition and has not been previously used in any other competition.
  • Publication of the submitted work on social media prior to the end of the competition and the announcement of the winners is prohibited.
  • Only one submission per entrant is allowed.
  • The Ministry of Culture may publish whatever information it deems appropriate about the participants or anything related to the competition on its website and social media channels.
  • The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities have the right to exclude any participating artist without giving any reasons or entailing any obligations or compensations. Furthermore, when the reasons why the competing artist is not eligible to win are realized by reference to the competition’s terms and conditions, the Ministry of Culture has the right to refuse to grant the prize to the primary winner and to select another participant as the winner.
  • All decisions are final, and the Ministry of Culture or the participating entities have the right to suspend, delay, cancel, or change the terms and conditions at any time and without prior notice.
  • The Ministry of Culture reserves the right to modify the terms and conditions from time to time. Therefore, the participating artist must monitor any updates to these terms and conditions, as the Ministry of Culture will not announce the changes it makes.

Intellectual Property

  • All works submitted to the Ministry of Culture will become the property of the Ministry of Culture or the participating entities. The Ministry or any of the entities participating in this competition are entitled to register their intellectual property as their own.
  • In the event that there are two similar entries from two different participants and there is no evidence of ownership of the idea by both parties, the policy of the competition administration will approve the cancellation of both entries unless one of the parties submits official proof of ownership of the participation.
  • The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities will keep the detailed files attached to the competition entry form or sent via email.
  • The participants agree that the Ministry of Culture, the participating entities, or any other party are permitted to publish these contributions on their websites or in any other media, whether currently in use or emerging in the future, including websites, mobile applications, television, radio, etc. The participants also agree to the use of their work in promotional or advertising activities.
  • Participation in all its details, as well as any other information submitted by the participating artist to the competition, must be their own. The participating artist hereby acknowledges that all information submitted by the artist to the competition does not violate any third party’s intellectual property rights, special rights, or privacy.
  • The participant consents to the Ministry of Culture or participating entities filming advertising campaigns and using the winning entries and winners’ names in any available advertising channels.
  • The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities do not guarantee any intellectual property rights claimed by a participant. The Ministry of Culture also assumes no legal liability for the intellectual property of materials uploaded to the competition website, which may violate registered property rights.

Legal Responsibility

  • These terms and conditions are subject to the laws and regulations applicable in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The competent judicial authorities in the city of Riyadh shall consider any dispute that may arise due to participation in the competition.
  • The participating artist warrants that the proposed entry is original and that no one else owns the intellectual property rights to the entry.
  • In the event of a dispute over the intellectual property of the participation or any other dispute, the participating artist releases the Ministry of Culture or the participating entities from any responsibilities for any material or moral damages resulting from it, and the participant alone bears full responsibility for this violation and the breach issued by them.
  • The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities shall not bear any responsibility if false or inaccurate information is delivered due to human errors or technical malfunctions, such as loss, delay in data transmission, deletion, or malfunction in telephone lines, computers, network, or computer accessories.
  • The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities are not responsible for any material losses or damages resulting from participating in the competition.
  • The Ministry of Culture or the participating authorities are not responsible for all legal actions against those who violate laws or regulations before the official authorities.
