About the Contest

The Visual Arts Commission, in collaboration with the Saudi Post | SPL, presents the "Ways of Art " contest. It is a creative contest that invites emerging artists to present creative drawings and art pieces mimicking a future based on the adaptation of state-of-the-art technologies, characterized by accuracy, speed, and quality, reflecting the transformation in sending and receiving parcels. Six winning pieces will be displayed on the parcel posts and delivery cars of the Saudi Post | SPL. An overview of the winning artists will also be displayed on the Visual Arts Commission's social media accounts.

Terms & Conditions

General Provisions

  • 1. The submitted artwork shall not conflict with the provisions and principles of Islamic Law and public morals.
  • 2. The submitted artwork shall not conflict with any local or international rights, regulations or laws, or encourage in any way the violation of those rights, laws or regulations.
  • 3. The submission of an artwork by a Participating Artist shall not be interpreted as if said artwork has been registered as an intellectual property.
  • 4. The Ministry of Culture may publish any information it deems appropriate of participants as well as everything related to the Contest on its website and social media accounts.
  • 5. The Ministry of Culture or the Participating Entities shall be entitled to exclude any Participating Artist without having to offer any justifications and without being liable for any obligations or compensation of any kind. The Ministry of Culture shall have the right not to award the prize to the main winner and to choose another winner instead in the event where there are factors that do not qualify the former to win, in accordance with the Contest's Terms and Conditions.
  • 6. All decisions made are final, and the Ministry of Culture or Participating Entities shall have the right to suspend, delay, cancel, or change the Terms and Conditions at any time without prior notice.
  • 7. The Ministry of Culture shall be entitled to change the Terms and Conditions from time to time, and Participating Artists should be aware of any updates to these Terms and Conditions. The Ministry of Culture will not announce the changes it makes to the Terms and Conditions.

Terms of Participation

  • 1. Participating Artists should be Saudi visual artists. (Saudi citizens working in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Saudi nationals working outside the Kingdom).
  • 2. Participants must be over 18 years old.
  • 3. Participants should be individuals.
  • 4. Each Participating Artist shall submit only one artwork, in accordance with the conditions and specifications set forth in the Contest management policy.
  • 5. Participating Artists should submit their artwork and all required documents via the website (National ID, contact details, etc.), noting that artworks and required documents that have not been submitted via the website shall not be admitted or considered.
  • 6. If a Participant does not meet the above conditions, they shall be immediately disqualified.
  • 7. The Ministry of Culture or the Participating Entities shall not be responsible for paying any fees for the development of the artworks by the applying visual artists.

Artistic Conditions

  • Inspired by the theme of the Contest: The transformation in sending and receiving postal services, and the future of sending and receiving parcels.
  • Artwork dimensions: The minimum dimensions for the artworks shall be 91 cm in height and 61 cm in width. Artworks shall be either executed in digital format or converted to a high-definition digital format if they were executed on paper. No paper artworks or pieces that are smaller in dimensions shall be admitted.
  • Artwork concept: The artist's work should interact with the concepts of culture and innovation. It should integrate the vision of Saudi Post and the Visual Arts Commission as well as the unique and rich culture of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
  • 6 winning artworks will be selected – These artworks will be displayed on the parcel posts and delivery cars of the Saudi Post | SPL. An overview of the winning artists will also be displayed on the Visual Arts Commission's social media accounts.
  • The assigned team shall seek to implement the works in the same colors selected by the artists, noting the following:
  • - Modifications may be necessary to accommodate business uses, and alignment shall be made with the artists in this case.
  • - Complex words and representations and complex geometric shapes should be avoided.
  • - The artworks will be displayed at the Saudi Post headquarters and will be used on a number of media, noting that the artists’ names will be mentioned on all said media.

Artistic Terms of the Contest

  • 1. Applying artists must submit a new, original, and unique artwork, specifically made for the contest and not part of a previous series or collection.
  • 2. The artworks should interact with the theme of the contest and the collaboration between the Ministry of Culture and Saudi Post | SPL.
  • 3. Applying artists must demonstrate creativity and authenticity in their work.
  • 4. The proposed artwork should also include the following:
  • • Artwork concept: a text not exceeding 300 words describing the artwork, its importance, and how it meets criteria 2 and 3 as described above.
  • • Artist's profile: a text not exceeding 500 words describing the artist's experience, some of his/her most important works and artistic participation.
  • • Supporting files: the artist should explain how the artwork was developed, showcasing the drawings and the design process in progress in the form of supporting files. Additional details can be added, such as the mockup design behind the presented artwork.

Intellectual Property

  • 1. All works submitted to the Ministry of Culture shall become the property of the latter or the Participating Entities, and the Ministry of Culture or any of the Participating Entities shall be entitled to register the intellectual property of said works in their names.
  • 2. In the event that there are two similar entries from two different individuals and there is no proof on whose party is the owner of the artwork, the Contest management policy stipulates that both entries shall be cancelled, unless one of the parties submits proof of ownership of the entry.
  • 3. The Ministry of Culture, or the Participating Entities, shall have the right to keep the detailed files enclosed with the entries either through the contest applications or sent by e-mail.
  • 4. Participants agree that the Ministry of Culture, the Participating Entities, or any other authorized party may publish these entries on the website or in any other media, whether currently known or to emerge in the future, including websites, mobile phones, television, radio, and others. Participants also agree to the use of their works in activations and advertisements, as long as their name is displayed on the artwork.
  • 5. The entry in all its details as well as any other information submitted by the Participating Artist to the Contest, must be personal and specifically belong thereto. The Participating Artist hereby acknowledges that all information submitted to the Contest does not violate intellectual property rights, proprietary rights, privacy rights, or other rights to any third party.
  • 6. Participants acknowledge their agreement to the fact that the Ministry of Culture or the Participating Entities may shoot advertising campaigns and use the winning entries and the names of winners across all available advertising means.
  • 7. The Ministry of Culture or the Participating Entities shall not guarantee any intellectual property rights claimed by the Participating Artist, and the Ministry of Culture shall not bear any legal responsibility regarding the intellectual property of the materials uploaded on the website of the contest, which may constitute a violation of registered property rights.

Legal Liability

  • 1. The present terms and conditions are governed by the applicable laws of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and any dispute arising from participation in the Contest shall be considered by the competent judicial authorities in Riyadh city.
  • 2. The Participating Artist warrants that the submitted entry is original and that no one owns the intellectual property rights to the entry.
  • 3. In the event of a dispute over the intellectual property of the entry or any other dispute, the Participating Artist shall release the Ministry of Culture or the Participating Entities from any responsibility for any material or moral damages arising from this, and the Participating Artist shall alone bear full responsibility for this violation and the breach caused thereby.
  • 4. The Ministry of Culture, or the Participating Entities, shall not be liable if false or inaccurate information resulting from human errors or technical failures is submitted, such as the loss or delay in data transfer or deletion, or a malfunction in the telephone line, computer or network, or computer accessories.
  • 5. The Ministry of Culture, or the Participating Entities, shall not be responsible for any material losses or damages resulting from participation in the Contest.
  • 6. The Ministry of Culture, or the Participating Entities, shall not be responsible for any legal actions for violation of any laws that may have been committed by the Participating Artist before the authorities.

  • Q: Can an artist participate in the Contest if they are not in Saudi Arabia?
  • C: Yes, the Contest is open to any Saudi national living inside or outside the Kingdom. All participants shall receive similar treatment.
  • Q: What is the deadline for entry submission?
  • C: The deadline for entry submission is (two weeks from the start of entry admission). Any entries submitted following this date shall not be admitted.
  • Q: Are there any registration fees for participation?
  • C: No, there are no fees for registration and participation in the contest.
  • Q: If a participant submits more than one artwork, can the artworks' supporting documents be combined into one file?
  • A: No, more than one artwork shall be accepted for each artist. If more than one entry is received from the same artist, the participation thereof shall be excluded.
  • Q: In which language can the artwork brief be presented to the jury of the Contest?
  • A: The artwork brief can be presented in both Arabic and English.
