About the competition

In pursuit of local talent discovery and development, the Architecture and Design Commission has launched the “Architecture and Design Competitions” initiative, targeting all the sectors that fall under its umbrella. The Saudi Cup Design Competition is a competition to design the cups and trophies that will be awarded at the 2022 Saudi Cup for horse racing, and it targets designers, students, and design agencies. The shortlisted designers will have the opportunity to participate in a design workshop, and will be able to make some final touches and adjustments to their designs before entering the final assessment stage.

Sets to be designed

The competition encompasses the design of eight different design sets of cups and trophies for eight races that are part of the Saudi Cup 2022. Each participant has the option to participate in at least one of the eight design sets. The participant must upload separate files for each submitted design set. All submissions will be reviewed and three designs will be shortlisted for each design set to enter the final assessment stage. The eight design sets are:

Receiving submissions from the participants through the platform.
Reviewing all submissions and shortlisting the top 3 design proposals from each design set to participate in the design development workshop.
Shortlisted designers will have the opportunity to participate in a design workshop, with the ability to do some final changes and additions to their designs, before entering the final assessment stage. After the final assessment, the jury will announce the winners.

The aim of the workshop

The lectures aim to inspire participants in the Saudi Cup design competition to submit their best designs and enhance their chances of participating in the competition.

Additional Information

Terms and Conditions

  • - Designs of each set must be unique and original. Duplicated designs will not be accepted.
  • - Participants can participate in more than one design set, but he/she must upload separate files for each design set.
  • - All participants must be Saudi nationals or residents of Saudi Arabia.
  • - Design agencies looking to participate must be registered in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia or owned by a Saudi national.
  • - Group participation is acceptable, given the provision of a name for the group, a group representative, and information for all team members.
  • - The submitted files must not include the name of the participant, the participating group, or the design agency. This will ensure a fair evaluation process as jury members will not be able to view the names of participants.
  • - All files must be submitted in the formats requested in the design brief.

FAQ

    Where will the workshop take place? And will flight and accommodation costs be covered if the participant is from another city within the Kingdom?

  • The design workshop will be held in Riyadh and flight and accommodation costs will be covered by the Ministry of Culture.
  • Please note that flight costs will only be covered if traveling from a local airport in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. (International flight costs will not be covered).
  • If the participant is a design agency or a group, how many members can participate in the design workshop?

  • The workshop can be attended by only one representative from each group or design agency.
  • Is there specific limit to the number of design sets that one participant can submit designs for?

  • There is no limit: one participant can submit designs for all eight design sets.
  • What is the required file format I need to submit?

  • Submitions should be uploaded as one PDF file for each design set. In addition to the PDF file, all drawings must be submitted as one DWG file for each design set as well. To note: design files for each design set must be uploaded separately.
  • If the participant wants to participate in more than one design set, can he/she merge the design files for the different design sets into one file?

  • It is not possible to merge files for different design sets. The participant must upload separate files for each design set.

Legal Responsibility

  • - The designer acknowledges that the submitted design is original, and that no one owns its intellectual property rights.
  • - The Ministry has the right to exclude any participant without giving any reasons, and without incurring any obligations or compensation of any kind.
  • - All designs submitted to the Ministry will become the property of the Ministry. The Ministry or any of the parties involved in this competition may register the intellectual property of the submitted designs.
  • - All decisions are final, and the Ministry has the right to suspend, delay, cancel or change the terms and conditions at any time.
  • - The Ministry is not responsible for any material losses or damages caused by participating in this competition.
