About the Competition

In the spectrum of this project, the Ministry of Culture launched a competition to design a logo for the Prince Mohammed Bin Salman International Center for Arabic Calligraphy ''Dar alqalam''; it is a national competition to engage and activate calligraphers, designers, artists, and creative professionals to compete in designing the best proposal for the logo. The competition will be implemented in two main phases, starting with uploading the entries from the initial designs of the participating group on a dedicated platform. In the second phase, the entries will be developed by working in the competition's three-day virtual bootcamp in cooperation with the most prominent experts in the field to present a number of proposals and determine the appropriate ones before adopting the final logo.

Objectives

Designing the center's logo by using different Arabic scripts.

Creating an educational and stimulating environment for calligraphers and artists.

Attracting different calligraphers to exchange experiences, and to form a community that values calligraphy as a solid identity and a renewed art.

Raising awareness of Arabic calligraphy and the logos derived from this art form.

General Terms

  • - Participation should not conflict with the provisions and principles of the Islamic Sharia and public morals.
  • - Participation does not conflict with any local or international rights regulations, or laws, or encourage in any way the violation of those rights, laws, or regulations.
  • - The participation submission by the participant does not mean that the submitted work is registered as intellectual property.
  • - The Ministry of Culture has the right to publish whatever information it deems appropriate about the participants and all related to the competition on its website and social media accounts.
  • - The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities have the right to exclude any participant without giving any reasons, and without incurring any obligations or compensation of any kind from the Ministry of Culture. The Ministry of Culture also has the right not to award the prize to the main winner and to choose another participant as the winner of the competition when the reasons why the first participant is not entitled to win are fulfilled by referring back to the terms and conditions of the competition.
  • - All decisions taken are final, and the Ministry of Culture or the participating entities have the right to suspend, delay, cancel or change the terms and conditions at any time and without prior notice.
  • - The Ministry of Culture may change the terms and conditions from time to time, and the participant must review any updates to these terms as The Ministry of Culture will not announce any changes.

Participation Terms

  • - The participants must be Saudi, whether they are working in Saudi Arabia or outside the kingdom.
  • - The participant must be over 18 years old.
  • - Participating in this competition is for individuals only; it’s not for design agencies or companies.
  • - The participant is committed to full credibility at all stages of the competition and is also obligated to attend and complete all stages of the competition.
  • - The designs of each set must be unique and original. Duplicated designs will not be accepted.
  • - Participants can participate in more than one design set, but he/she must upload separate files for each design set.
  • - Group participation is acceptable; the following information is required to submit: a name for the group, a group representative, and information for all team members.
  • - The submitted files must not include the name of the participant and the participating group. Thereby, ensuring a fair evaluation process for the jury member otherwise, their participation will be disregarded.
  • - The participant must submit all required participation documents via the website and upload the files in the required formats according to the guideline during registration on the participation platform, noting that all proposed artwork and required documents that were not submitted via the website will not be accepted or considered.
  • - The Ministry will not be responsible for paying any fees to develop the participant’s work.

Copyrights

  • - The participant undertakes that the participation is original and that no one owns the intellectual property rights to the proposed artwork.
  • - All artwork submitted to the Ministry of Culture will become the property of the Ministry of Culture or the authorities related to this competition, and it or any of the entities related to this competition will have the right to register its intellectual property.
  • - In case if there were two similar entries from two different people, and there is no proof of ownership of the idea by both parties, the policy of the competition administration will approve the cancellation of the two entries unless one of the participants submit official proof of their ownership of the presented artwork.
  • - The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities will keep all the detailed files attached to the competition entry form or those that were sent via e-mail.
  • - The participant acknowledges his/her consent to the Ministry of Culture or the participating entities filming advertising campaigns and using the winning entries and the names of the winners in all available advertising means.
  • - The participant acknowledges his/her consent that the Ministry of Culture, the participating authorities, or any other party authorized to publish these posts on the site or in any other media, whether currently known or in the coming future, including websites, mobile, television, radio, etc. In addition, the participant also agrees to have this data to be used in activities such as announcements and promotional advertisements.
  • - Participation should come in all of its details, as well as any other information submitted by the Entrant to the Contest, shall be personal and entrusted to him specifically, and the Entrant acknowledges that all information submitted by the Entrant to the Contest does not infringe the intellectual property rights, proprietary rights, privacy or other rights of any third party.
  • - The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities do not guarantee any intellectual property rights claimed by the participant, and the Ministry of Culture does not bear any legal responsibility regarding the intellectual property of the materials uploaded on the competition website, which may constitute a violation of registered property rights.

  • - These terms and conditions are subject to the applicable regulations in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the competent judicial authorities in the city of Riyadh shall consider any dispute arising out of the participation in the competition.
  • - In the event of a dispute over the intellectual property of the participation or any other kind of dispute, the participant releases the Ministry of Culture from any responsibilities for any material or moral damages resulting from this, and the participant alone bears full responsibility for this violation and the breach issued by him/her.
  • - The Ministry of Culture does not bear any responsibility if false or inaccurate information is delivered as a result of human errors, technical malfunctions such as loss, delay in transferring data, deletion, or malfunction of the telephone line, computer, network, or computer accessories.
  • - The Ministry of Culture or the participating entities are not responsible for any material losses or damages resulting from participating in the competition.
  • - The Ministry of Culture is not responsible for all legal actions towards violating the laws that the participant has violated before the official authorities
