The Saudi Ministry of Culture has launched the Industrial Heritage Program to build a network dedicated to the preservation of the Saudi industrial heritage, by commemorating the impact of the industrial establishments on economic and social developments. It aims at displaying these establishments to the society to highlight the role of the Saudi evolution in the global industry. This will be done through maintenance of these sites and promoting them as cultural and tourism destinations. The launch of the program stems from the Ministry's interest in supporting all aspects of cultural expression in Saudi Arabia, both tangible and intangible, including all kinds of heritage, as one of the Ministry's sixteen sectors.
In line with Saudi Vision 2030, the Ministry of Culture launched the Industrial Heritage Competition, which includes challenges that aim to engage and motivate all segments of society to highlight the industrial history in the Kingdom. This will be done through the discovery of industrial landmarks and the documentation of their physical, civil, and social history.
