The Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, is launching the Camel Studies Grant in an effort to dedicate attention to camels and their cultural, social, and economic significance through scientific research covering various specialized fields. The announcement of the grant coincides with the designation of 2024 as the International Year of Camelids. This initiative is part of the Ministry of Culture's efforts to support research related to culture, aiming to deepen the scientific and knowledge base that culture is built upon and to understand the connection of its elements to various aspects of life.

Objectives of the Grant

Supporting research excellence in theoretical and applied studies related to camel studies.

Developing new techniques and applications that enhance the cultural and economic value of camels.

Contributing to bridging research gaps in the field of camel studies

Exploring related topics in light of developments in modern concepts, theories, and methodologies.

Grant Areas

The grant accepts proposals in research areas related to the value of camels, covering historical, cultural, social, economic, environmental, and health aspects. It also encourages interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary studies that address contemporary challenges such as climate change and food security, among others. The fields include:

Historical Field:

Historical and ethnographic studies that cover topics on preserving the cultural heritage associated with camels, comparative studies on the importance of camels in different civilizations and societies worldwide, archival research on camel heritage, in addition to policies, techniques, and methodologies used in archiving.

Cultural Field:

Critical and literary studies on camels in Arabic and Saudi literature and children's literature, lexicographical studies on camel-related vocabulary, and studies on representations of camels in visual and cinematic arts, engravings, sculptures, and other forms.

Support and Follow-up

In addition to financial support, grant recipients will receive scientific guidance and support through designated scientific committees responsible for supervision, follow-up, and assistance in obtaining necessary resources and facilitating scientific publication.

The grant amount for accepted proposals in the Camel Studies Research Grant Program will be disbursed in three installments:

First Installment: 40% of the approved grant amount will be disbursed to the researcher upon winning the grant and the issuance of the grant decision.

Second Installment: 40% of the approved grant amount will be disbursed to the researcher upon submission of the completed research draft and approval by the scientific committee.

Third Installment: 20% of the grant amount will be disbursed upon publication after all required revisions from reviewers have been made and submission of proof of acceptance from one of the journals recognized by the Ministry.

Grant Phases

Registration

Online registration via the application website, uploading the research proposal, and completing necessary forms and commitments.

Evaluation

Evaluation of proposals by a specialized scientific committee.

Communication with Researchers

Informing the authors of accepted research proposals and disbursing the first installment of the grant.

Submission of the First Draft

Researchers send initial drafts of their research.

Review

The scientific committee reviews the submitted research drafts, and the second installment of the grant is disbursed.

Publication

Disbursement of the publication reward for research accepted by accredited and approved peer-reviewed journals.

Terms and Conditions

  • These terms and conditions apply to the Camel Studies Grant provided by the Ministry of Culture.
  • Applications must not violate any local or international rights, regulations, or laws, and participation must not encourage their violation in any way.
  • The Ministry of Culture reserves the right to change or cancel any of the terms and conditions at any time and without prior notice. Therefore, applicants must regularly check for any updates to the terms and conditions, as the Ministry of Culture will not announce updates to these terms and conditions.
  • The Ministry of Culture reserves the right to exclude any applicant from the grants based solely on its discretion, without providing any reasons, and without incurring any obligations or compensations on the Ministry of Culture.

Intellectual Property

  • The submission, including all its details and any other information provided by the applicant, must be personal and specific to the applicant. The applicant asserts that all information submitted to the Ministry of Culture does not infringe upon the intellectual property rights, personal rights, or privacy of any third party. The Ministry of Culture reserves the right to reject or exclude the proposal and hold the applicant liable for any damages incurred.
  • If two identical proposals are submitted by different applicants without proof of shared ownership, both proposals will be excluded unless one party provides official proof of ownership.
  • Each researcher and research team retains their intellectual property rights. It is sufficient to mention that the research is supported by the Ministry of Culture upon publication.
  • The Ministry of Culture has the right to retain any detailed files attached to the submission by the applicant.
  • In the event of a dispute over the intellectual property of the submission or any other dispute, the applicant releases the Ministry of Culture from any material or moral damages resulting from it. The applicant alone bears full responsibility for such violations.

Legal Responsibility

  • The Ministry of Culture is not liable for any costs, material or non-material losses or damages incurred by the applicant as a result of applying for the grant on the website.
  • The Ministry of Culture is not responsible for any legal actions taken against the applicant if they violate any regulations and laws before the official authorities.
  • These terms and conditions are subject to the laws and regulations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In the event of any dispute arising from any submission, the judicial authorities in the city of Riyadh shall have jurisdiction over the matter.

Pledges and Commitments

    The applicant pledges the following:

  • All information and data provided are true, accurate, and complete. The applicant acknowledges and agrees that the Ministry of Culture has the right to exclude the applicant from the grant if this is not the case, and the applicant will bear full responsibility.
  • The relevant authorities in the Ministry of Culture must be notified if any of the entered data or information changes.
  • Submitting the proposal does not imply its registration as intellectual property.
  • Submission of the proposal to any other entity is prohibited unless the application is canceled.
  • Maintaining complete honesty throughout all stages of the grant and committing to completing all its stages.
  • Adherence to the decisions of the scientific committee at all stages of the grant.
  • Publishing the accepted paper in an open-access peer-reviewed journal from among the journals approved by the Ministry.
  • The Applicant Must Acknowledge the Following:

  • The right of the Ministry of Culture to use and process personal data, such as name and address, for the purposes of the grant and within its scope. This data can also be used to verify identity, mailing address, phone number, and eligibility for application.
  • The right of the Ministry of Culture or any third party it authorizes to publish the proposal in any media, including its website, social media, mobile, television, radio, and other platforms.
  • The Ministry of Culture will not be responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information resulting from human error or technical failures, such as loss or delay in data transmission, deletion of data, phone line or computer or network malfunction, or computer peripherals.
  • Maintain confidentiality and not disclose, destroy, misuse, publish, or reveal any confidential documents or information related to the grant or the Ministry of Culture. This obligation applies throughout the grant period and even after its conclusion.
